About the available position:
EPIC - Every Person Influences Children is seeking a full-time (40 hrs/wk) Director of Development and Marketing to work primarily at their Buffalo headquarters, while supporting development and marketing in 4 counties: Cattaraugus, Erie, Niagara and Sullivan. This key leadership role requires a creative, innovative thinker who can develop and execute outside-the-box strategies to meet fundraising and strategic goals. This key role will drive donor relations, cultivate major gifts, lead annual appeals and campaigns, and secure sponsorships to support our mission of preventing child abuse and neglect and supporting literacy and child development. The DDM will research and secure funding opportunities, oversee grant writing and reporting, and manage sponsorship proposals. Additionally, they will oversee EPIC’s marketing and public relations, ensuring a strong and consistent brand presence through media relations, marketing materials, and external communications. This position also involves managing volunteers and interns as appropriate and works with an administrative position that supports customer relationship database (Salesforce) functions, including data entry, managing donors, campaigns, opportunities, acknowledgements and other development related data functions.
EPIC is looking for candidates who have:
- Experience in development, donor and major gift cultivation and event execution
- Excellent community relationships, including public and private donor relationships
- Proven and documented fundraising success, using creative and innovative strategies
- Experience with strategic development activities, including the creation of an annual development and marketing plans
- Management experience with development-related activities, including appeals; campaigns; donor and major gift relations and cultivation; and events
- Understanding and ability to manage Marketing and Public Relations activities, including creation of marketing and sales support materials; social media content and analytics; website; and direct all public relation activities
Candidates are required to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Human Services or related field and 2 (two) years development experience or a minimum of five years’ development experience. Documented success required in the form of secured medium to large funding opportunities or proven individual and corporate engagement success.
- 3 (three) years in a leadership level position.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT).
- Database experience, Salesforce experience preferred (will train).

Job Title: Director of Development and Marketing
Staff Category: Full-Time

Position Summary:
The Director of Development and Marketing (DDM) will lead efforts to secure funding and support for the organization, focusing on donor relations, cultivation of major gifts, annual appeals and campaigns, event planning, and sponsorships. The DDM will research and secure sponsorships for programs, meet with potential donors and funders, and manage the writing and submission of sponsorship proposals.
This position will also oversee grant writing, prepare reports, and research funding opportunities. They will work with external contractors for some government grants. Additionally, the DDM will manage EPIC's marketing and public relations, ensuring the brand is consistent and strong. They will oversee the creation of marketing materials, manage media relations, and handle external communications.
This position is responsible for managing volunteers and interns as appropriate and working with the administrative position that supports development through Salesforce data entry, donor, campaign and other information management, and reporting. Key skills needed include strong communication, creativity, organization, writing, collaboration, and leadership.
Essential Functions:
- Serve on Leadership Team and provide insight regarding the strategic direction of the agency
- Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop community relationships and provide development reporting as required
- Responsible for annual development, fundraising and budgeting goals
- Serve on committees as needed
- Manage strategic development activities, including the creation of an annual development and marketing plan based on Board and agency goals
- Manage development-related funding activity, including:
o Direct and manage appeals; campaigns; donor and major gift relations and cultivation; and events
o Direct staff assigned to assist in these efforts, as necessary, which include management of Salesforce, event support and/or coordination, and implementation of all mailing and other outreach campaigns
o Research federal, state, and local foundation funding opportunities
o Work with the Leadership Team to prioritize and author grant opportunities
o Submit all funding requests in a timely manner
o Follow-up on funding submissions accordingly
o Edit evaluation reports, as necessary
o Manage entry and tracking of development funding through Salesforce
o Develop and build public and private donor relationships
- Manage activities related to Marketing and Public Relations:
o Creation of all marketing and sales support materials for expansion
o Agency Annual Report
o Social media content and analytics
o Website management (content, commerce, updates, SEO, analytics)
o Direct all public relation activities, including but not limited to TV and radio appearances
o Maintain and expand community relationships and partner development
o Plan for strategic outreach
- Draft and submit monthly activity reports to the Executive Director
- Other duties as assigned
