Job Overview: The Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant will be responsible for collecting blood and other specimens from patients, performing basic laboratory tests, and supporting laboratory operations. The Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant will work closely with the laboratory team and will ensure that all laboratory operations are conducted in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collect blood and other specimens from patients using appropriate techniques, such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, and urine collection.
Label and process specimens for testing, including preparing and aliquoting specimens for storage and transport.
Able to drive long distances to visit homebound patients.
Perform basic laboratory tests, such as urine dipstick analysis, blood glucose testing, and basic hematology tests.
Enter data into the laboratory information system (LIS) and maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities.
Support laboratory operations by preparing reagents and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and workspaces.
Follow established protocols and procedures for quality control and quality assurance, and report any deviations or discrepancies to the laboratory manager.
Assist with other laboratory tasks, as needed, including receiving and accessioning specimens, preparing specimens for testing, and disposing of biohazardous waste.
Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe working environment.
Participate in continuing education and training to maintain proficiency in phlebotomy and laboratory techniques.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
Current certification in phlebotomy or a related field (such as Medical Laboratory Assistant).
Hold a current driver's license and in good standing.
Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and practices.
Ability to perform venipuncture and other specimen collection techniques using appropriate infection control techniques.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and technology quickly.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform phlebotomy and laboratory tasks.
Ability to see and distinguish colors and shapes accurately.
Ability to hear and communicate clearly in person and over the phone.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 6 – 36 per week
