Collaborates with caregivers to adapt the learning environment and activities in order to increase the participation of children with diagnosed disabilities and/or special needs.

Responsible for leading and supporting the ELC of North Florida’s screening and inclusion efforts, providing support and oversight, to the Screening and Inclusion Specialists as well as training for the Education Department as a whole in best practices for working with children with special needs and their caregivers. Collaborates with caregivers to adapt the learning environment and activities in order to increase the participation of children with diagnosed disabilities and/or special needs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direct support and supervision to Screening Specialists and Inclusion Specialists.
- Assists in internal and external program monitoring of child screening files, processes and policies and provide training to staff based on monitoring results.
- Works with screening specialists to ensure ECS meets our targeted screening goals.
- Provides training to enhance the skills of specialists and education staff in best practices in the field of Early Education and Inclusive practices.
- Collaborates with other coordinators and supervisors in the department as needed.
- Creates community awareness of inclusive child care through trainings and workshops for parents and child care providers.
- Identifies needs by providing a variety of primary and secondary screenings for school readiness children enrolled in child care programs and family child care homes.
- Works with caregivers to provide an inclusive learning environment for children with diagnosed disabilities and/or special needs.
- Develops a Child Development Plan for parents and care givers with goals to implement strategies for individual children with diagnosed disabilities and/or special needs.
- Models strategies for inclusion in the classroom and family child care home providers.
- Provides professional development and support to caregivers in order to increase their confidence and competence in working with children with diagnosed disabilities and/or special needs.
- Observes children at request of parents or providers and makes referrals for services or further evaluation when appropriate.
- Identifies children who are at risk due to behavior concerns and develops a plan with the teacher to support their social and emotional development.
- Keeps informed of current professional knowledge and strategies for inclusion through participation in workshops, and by reading professional publications.
- Ensures Inclusion specialists provide a minimum of 2 trainings per quarter.
- Utilizes state and agency data bases to track school readiness children.
- Maintain confidentiality in regard to information accessed in the performance of job duties.
- Prepares and maintains child files complete with case notes.
- Follow DEL guidelines by submitting required reports, attending required meetings and/or conference calls.
- Attend any pertinent conferences and meetings as requested including meetings/events outside of typical business hours, such as nights and weekends with potential travel to the event location.
- Other job duties as assigned, including assisting in other areas of the education department as necessary.
- Responsible for implementing the coalition’s anti-fraud plan daily activities related to prevention, detection, investigation, and reporting of possible overpayment resulting from potential fraud or abuse.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Social Work or related field
- 3-5 yrs experience working in preschool settings with special needs children preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to maintain a strong commitment to the needs of children and project goals
- Knowledge of early childhood performance standards
- Ability to build and establish mentoring relationships
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, i.e., Word, Excel
- Ability to work with data base products
- Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile coverage
- Satisfactory Driving Record (as outlined in Vehicle Driving Policy)
- Must be CLASS certified within 1 year of start date and maintain reliability for CLASS assessments.
- Certificates of acknowledgement required: Conflict of Interest, Code of Ethics, Confidentiality agreements, IT Systems and Security, Anti-Fraud, HR Employee Acknowledgement Form.
- Works in an office environment and in early childhood classroom setting
- Local travel to multiple sites is required
- Some out of town travel, including nights and weekends required
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
