Job Overview
The Director of Business Development & Sponsorship Sales is a key leadership role responsible for driving revenue growth and establishing long-term partnerships to support premier equestrian events. This role manages a portfolio of high-value sponsorships, contributing to the financial success and operational excellence of events. The Director will lead a dedicated team, ensuring seamless sponsor integration and satisfaction while innovating sponsorship offerings to enhance the overall event experience. This role is an onsite position in Lexington, Kentucky.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sponsorship Acquisition: Secure and manage sponsorships for multiple high-profile events.
- Team Leadership: Oversee Sponsorship and Trade Fair managers, and provide seasonal oversight to sponsorship contractors and assistants.
- Budget & Revenue Management: Handle all accounting functions including budgeting, invoicing, and financial reconciliation.
- Sponsor Fulfillment & Activation: Ensure optimal brand representation through signage, activations, and hospitality.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison for sponsors, hospitality committees, and equestrian partners such as USEF.
- Strategic Planning: Develop custom sponsorship proposals aligned with client goals.
- Event Participation: Represent the organization at industry events and conferences, fostering new sponsorship opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Proven success in sales, business development, or sponsorship roles, preferably in the event or sports industries.
- Strong leadership and team management experience.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
- Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L assessments.
- Ability to think strategically and execute innovative sponsorship solutions.
