Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Afterschool & Auxiliary Programs at Ethical Culture Fieldston School, the Afterschool Swimming Coach will lead swim sessions for students in grades K-5. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, a strong background in swimming instruction, and a passion for fostering a love of swimming and water safety. This role also includes ensuring the safety of all participants during swim activities.
We are seeking an After School Swim Coach to work Monday-Friday from 3:15pm-5pm. This is a part time position with a hiring rate of $56.67per hour.
Please note that this is an onsite role and is not performed remotely. Ethical Culture Fieldston School retains its right to modify job duties in accordance with changing operational needs.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of the Swim Coach will include:
Working in tandem with the Director of Aquatics to plan and lead age-appropriate swimming sessions for K-5 students;
Ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants by closely monitoring swimming activities and enforcing pool rules;
Creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all participants;
Appropriately addressing student behavioral issues and other challenges that may arise in order to maintain a safe environment and a sense of calm in such situations;
Providing encouragement to students to help support their social and emotional growth;
Ensuring confidentiality of student information as necessary;
Attending meetings as scheduled;
Learning and implementing after school policies and procedures;
Maintaining accurate attendance records and reporting any incidents to the program coordinator;
Assisting in monitoring Pre-K to 5th-grade students during afterschool check-in;
Escorting children between Fieldston Lower and the Athletics Center pool;
Maintaining compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards; and
Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned.
Requirements
The successful incumbent will possess:
A Bachelor’s Degree or some college level coursework required;
The ability to identify issues quickly and problem solve accordingly, and to remain calm in stressful situations that may arise;
A passion for teaching with a pleasant and positive demeanor toward all forms of teaching and learning;
The ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the overall community;
An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and how to support a diverse student population;
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills;
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;
The ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and prioritize required tasks;
CPR/First Aid Certifications and previous lifeguarding experience;
A positive attitude and the ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback;
Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance; and
A deep respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms.
