Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing the financial processes of a manufacturing facility, including month-end closing, inventory valuations, internal control reviews, product costing, and financial reporting for our business. The Controller will oversee financial management for manufacturing operations, monitor manufacturing costs and variances, and assess plant profitability. This role serves as the principal resource for providing meaningful operational analysis to both Operations and Finance leadership.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of the financial results for the business.
- Manage the month-end closing process and prepare monthly financial statements and other operational reports for the site.
- Collaborate with the Plant Manager to coordinate and develop the annual operations budget, detailed plant spending, conversion costs by month, Capex plans, and standard costing for manufactured products.
- Monitor plant spending and provide meaningful analysis of manufacturing variances, including comparisons to forecast, budget, and prior year. Assist operations management in developing and deploying plans to reduce costs or improve productivity.
- Work with the Plant Manager to construct a monthly forecast of plant spending and conversion costs. Drive and deliver the forecast in collaboration with Plant Management.
- Coordinate monthly reviews of inventory positions, including inventory aging analyses.
- Oversee the periodic physical inventory process and cycle count program.
- Actively participate in and present plant performance results, emphasizing helping management understand outcomes and underlying causes of manufacturing variances. Recommend corrective actions to improve performance.
- Assist in preparing and analyzing capital spending proposals, ensuring compliance with company policies related to capital expenditures.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in building standard costs, operating variance analysis, and developing reporting tools and processes to meet business needs.
- Strong ability to model financial information, operating data, and KPIs into concise presentations to facilitate understanding of operational results and drive performance improvement decisions.
- Effective communication skills with management, peers, and staff.
- Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail, accuracy, and accountability, balanced with sound judgment.
- Robust working knowledge of ERP systems and databases, with the ability to extract and analyze data to create ad hoc reports as needed.
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
