What are the responsibilities and job description for the BILLING SPECIALIST FOR CLINICAL LAB position at Excell Clinical Lab?
Clinical laboratory, located in central New Jersey, is looking for a biller familiar with all aspects of out-of-network laboratory billing. The right candidate will be responsible for all tasks related to insurance billing process (i.e.: verification of benefits, billing, medical records, corrected claims, Dx code understanding, etc.) Essential to this position is the ability to manage all insurance follow up for maximum insurance reimbursement. This position includes outbound and inbound insurance carrier calls, reprocessing claims, drafting appeals, working denials and resolving unpaid claims. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Good data entry skills.
- Systems (billing) experience.
- Working knowledge of Excel.
- Eye toward process & efficiency improvements.
- Familiarity with CPT & ICD-9/10 coding.
- Assist all departments with miscellaneous projects, as needed
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Conduct business in a responsible manner that complies with all state, CLIA, CAP, OSHA and/or HIPAA regulations, or Joint Commission as applicable.
- Generate billing and collection reports.
- Regularly interact with billing vendors.
- Actively follow up and collect on all electronic claims, including resolution of any billing errors assigned while following established procedures.
- Respond to correspondence from insurance carries.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING: Associate degree desired.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to accurately process high volumes of work within a short period of time. Above average critical thinking, communication and analytical skills. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Ability to have productive telephone conversations with insurance company representatives. Familiarity with computer and Windows PC applications, which includes the ability to learn new computer systems applications. Positive attitude and team player. Ability to lift 40 pounds.
EXPERIENCE: 1 Year of direct clinical laboratory billing experience. 1 year of experience working with commercial and governmental payers. Experience in reading EOB’s is a must.
