Summary of Position:
The Assistant Director of Special Education will support the Director in overseeing and implementing special education services across Exeter’s elementary schools (PreK–5). This role includes supervising staff, ensuring compliance with federal and state special education regulations, supporting Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and partnering with families, educators, and outside providers to promote student growth.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the leadership, coordination, and implementation of all special education services and programs
Support compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and SAU 16 policies
Collaborate with building administrators, special educators, and related service providers to ensure equitable and effective programming
Participate in the hiring, supervision, and professional development of special education staff
Provide guidance and consultation in complex IEP meetings and student support planning
Support data collection and analysis to monitor student progress and program effectiveness
Foster strong communication with families and caregivers
Promote inclusive practices and evidence-based interventions across settings
- Proficient computer skills and business correspondence editing.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills and ability to work not only as a member of a team, but also to work independently.
- Working knowledge of Google Suite, New Hampshire Special Education Information System(NHSEIS), financial systems and Medicaid to Schools billing is preferred.
