ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Ophthalmic Technician at Eye Physicians & Surgeons of Chicago, you will be responsible for the clinical care and expertise you provide our patients. This will include but not limited to; following clinical protocols and maintaining a culture of empathy and excellence. You will focus on working as a team to assist others while ensuring there is a high quality of clinical care with focus on the patient.
Your role will involve conducting and mastering preliminary exams including patient histories, visual acuity, lensometry, refractometry, pupil evaluation, EOMs, confrontational fields, angle assessment, color vision, tonometry, and pachymetry. You should become skilled at performing diagnostic testing such as OCT, HVF, Optos, Lenstar, Topography, and A-scan.
The Ophthalmic Technician will report to the Practice Administrator and will partner closely with the doctors and Clinic Supervisor. In this role, you will assist where needed in the clinic with an emphasis on teamwork and productivity.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

- Spanish speaking a plus but not required
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs preliminary exams including patient histories, visual acuity, lensometry, refractometry, pupil evaluation, EOMs, confrontational fields, angle assessment, color vision, tonometry, and pachymetry
- Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications as directed by physician
- Ability to perform diagnostic testing such as OCT, HVF, Optos, Lenstar, Topography, and A-scan
- Familiar with ocular medications, terminology, and ocular diseases
- Documents complete and accurate chart notes
- Instructs patients about medications, tests, and procedures (patient education)
- Administers prescriptions refills as directed by the doctor and responds to medication requests from pharmacies
- Completes prior authorizations required by a patient's plan for a medicine prescribed by the practice
- Knowledge of patient flow
- Knowledge of instruments routinely used in office
- Assists with in-office procedures including informed consent, injection preparation and set up of sterile surgical field
- Responsible for care, maintenance, stocking, and set up of exam rooms
- Ability to be cross-functional to assist the patient and the doctor in what is necessary for the best possible care
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
