Social Services Assistant

Job Summary
The Social Services Assistant plays a vital role in supporting individuals and families in navigating social services programs and resources. This position involves working closely with clients to assess their needs, provide guidance, and connect them with appropriate services. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a compassionate approach, and the ability to manage crises effectively.

Duties

• Conduct assessments to determine client needs and eligibility for various social services programs, including Medicare and Section 8 housing assistance.
• Provide crisis management support to clients facing urgent situations, ensuring their immediate safety and well-being.
• Assist clients in accessing behavioral health resources and services, offering guidance throughout the process.
• Mentor individuals in developing life skills and coping strategies, fostering independence and resilience.
• Supervise and support clients in childcare settings, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
• Collaborate with social workers and other professionals to develop comprehensive care plans tailored to individual client needs.
• Maintain accurate records of client interactions, progress notes, and service referrals in compliance with confidentiality regulations.
• Stay informed about community resources and programs available to assist clients effectively.

Experience
Candidates should have experience or knowledge in the following areas:

• Crisis management techniques to handle urgent client situations effectively.
• Social work principles, particularly related to child welfare and family support.
• Familiarity with Medicare processes and eligibility requirements.
• Skills in mentoring individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Understanding of behavioral health issues and available interventions.
• Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive change.
• Experience supervising childcare activities or working within child welfare systems is preferred.
