GRANT SUMMARY
The goal of NEWINGS is to provide focused comprehensive, coordinated, and evidence-based treatment to American Indian / Alaska Native (AI/AN) individuals experiencing homelessness who screen positive for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health conditions. Those who have completed treatment will be placed in the Recovery Home for further therapy to improve their housing stability. Once ready for residency transition, a coordinated effort will be made to secure permanent housing. NEWINGS will pay particular attention to meeting the disparate needs of the LGBTQIA population.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supervises the Recovery Home staff and coordinates consumer activities. This position oversees the daily operation of the Recovery Home to include the safety of residents, develops house policies & procedures, and monitors compliance. The position ensures a therapeutic environment in which productive, meaningful, and culturally appropriate services can be provided.
JOB DUTIES
  • Coordinates daily community house meetings and peer recovery support services, links mutual support groups with clinical services, and conducts on-site life skills training three (3) times weekly.
  • Provides linkage to housing and/or recovery housing.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with interested parties and care specialists.
  • Works in collaboration with treatment counselors to develop a Transition Plan one week before treatment completion.
  • Works in collaboration with Peer Recovery Specialist to develop Recovery Support services for transition from Recovery Home.
  • Facilitates weekly gender therapy focusing on the social, mental, emotional, and physical needs of LGBTQIA clients who are questioning gender, are uncomfortable with aspects of their gender or body, and/or are experiencing gender dysphoria.
  • Develops the curriculum necessary to meet the needs of the disproportionate percentage of LGBTQIA who are homeless.
  • Supports consumers during their treatment experience providing positive feedback and hope.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of assigned responsibilities.
  • Assists the Project Manager with day-to-day operations within the scope of job duties, as needed.
  • Prepares and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual reports in a timely and accurate manner as required.
  • Creates schedules, supervises and evaluates housing staff.
  • Conducts orientation and training for all new housing members on relevant policies and procedures, including vehicle, emergency, universal precautions and health and safety rules, and Electronic Health Record documentation training relevant to their duties.
  • Assists with monitoring of consumers on and off unit. Facilitates groups as needed within the scope of qualifications or knowledge base.
  • Assists with planning weekly social and recreational activity calendars for the consumers and assists with activities scheduled during shift, in cooperation with the treatment team.
  • Attends clinical case staffing and functions as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Ensures adherence to data collection requirements and enters accurate and timely data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Develop billing records.
  • Oversees safety and security of up to sixteen (16) consumers in Recovery Center.
  • Attends mandatory position training that provides training in risk factors as designated by the Project Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Assures apartments are maintained and cleaned weekly.
  • Develop residential policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to residential regulations and licensing requirements.
  • Maintains consumer confidentiality following 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPPA.
  • Attends all required staff meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
  • Ability to report to work on time.
  • Above average skills in operating/using computers and using Windows, Word, and Excel with the ability to accurately input information into reporting formats.
  • Above average communication and people skills with the ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of how to best assist possible escalated individuals during the data collection process.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native populations.
  • Ability to protect confidentiality is essential; HIPAA & 42 CFR compliant.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret/understand billing procedures.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting their deadlines.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience working with the AN/AI population and providing culturally specific services.
  • One (1) year of lived experience with homelessness, substance abuse, and/or co-occurring disorder.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for degree requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Master’s degree in behavioral health or related field.
  • Training experience.
  • One (1) year of experience involving program/project management.
  • One (1) year of experience in a residential home.
  • Lived experience with homelessness and/or substance abuse.
