The summer youth program is a Parks & Recreation Department program for students who currently attend high school. The incumbent in this position may be required to work at Pioneer Park, Chena Lake Recreation Area, or Parks Maintenance.
SALARY: Grade 97
REPORTS TO: Summer Youth Crew Supervisor
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None
1. Must be a minimum of 14 years old by March 1st of the year applying.
2. Available to work some weekends, holidays, and irregular work shifts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
2. Ability to effectively communicate and deal with the public in a continually courteous and tactful manner.
3. Ability to use basic hand tools.
4. Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time and under a variety of weather conditions.JOB CONTACTS:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Shop area where conditions are pleasant; varied outdoor work sites with disagreeable conditions with undesirable elements or factors on a somewhat continuous basis; up to 3/4 of time is spent standing, or walking; major accident/hazard risk; requires sustained periods of heavy lifting, pushing or pulling (50 lbs.).

1. Perform routine maintenance of parks, playgrounds, and ball fields.
2. Plant and weed flower beds, landscape, and plant grass.
3. Perform restroom maintenance using appropriate cleaning agents.
4. Paint facility equipment such as benches, bleachers, and restrooms.
5. Pick up litter and empty trash cans.
6. Trim and clear brush.
7. Perform minor facilities repairs using common hand tools.
8. Work courteously with fellow employees and the public.
