What are the responsibilities and job description for the Train Engineer -Pioneer Park position at Fairbanks North Star, Borough of (AK)?
The incumbent is responsible for providing routine and preventive maintenance to the assigned trains, rail cars, and tracks. Responsible for the safe operation of the train and safety of passengers and others working in conjunction with the train. Will be responsible for providing information concerning the attractions at Pioneer Park. Duties will also involve contact with the public and require a considerable amount of tact, patience, courtesy, and diplomacy. Work schedule to include weekends and various shifts as required.
SALARY: Grade 95
REPORTS TO: Pioneer Park Supervisor
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None1. Transporting summer visitors by train at Pioneer Park, and providing information to visitors concerning park attractions and points of interest along routes.
2. Performs and documents a variety of minor servicing, adjustments, and repairs to equipment. Performs and documents routine daily inspection of equipment.
3. Coordinates with Park Aides to ensure a safe and enjoyable user experience.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Demonstrated experience in the safe operation of a train or heavy-duty industrial equipment.
2. Must be at least 21 years old.
3. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST)
4. Standard First Aid, Adult CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications, as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent) preferred. (APPLICANTS WHO HOLD A CURRENT CERTIFICATION MUST PROVIDE ORIGINAL CERTIFICATION AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW.)
5. Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and irregular work shifts.

1. Ability to perform routine cleaning in the manner of dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, washing, and polishing.
2. Ability to operate assigned train equipment skillfully and safely.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the care, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned equipment.
4. Ability to detect needed repairs and to make necessary simple adjustments to the train.
5. Ability to recognize deficiencies in the train tracks, and report to supervisor promptly.
6. Ability to work independently in performance of assigned working duties.
7. Ability to deal with the public in a continually courteous and tactful manner.
8. Ability to complete and record necessary information to determine passenger ridership and other related data.
