Fairview Health Services is looking for an Anatomic Pathology Technical Supervisor at St John’s Hospital. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position, 80 hours/2 week pay period. This position provides leadership to pathology team members at St John’s and Woodwinds hospitals.
The Pathology Teams at St John’s and Woodwinds partner with pathologists, histology and cytology teams to meet the testing needs of our patients. Onsite activities include accessioning and gross examination of specimens, Intraoperative consultation, Rapid Onsite Evaluation of specimens, preparing specimens for shipment to offsite locations, receipt of slides for pathologists to review.
Responsibilities Job Description
The Technical Supervisor has direct responsibilities for the technical operation of a laboratory or a laboratory section. The responsibilities include the supervision of employees in collaboration with laboratory manager, director, and medical director(s). The Technical Supervisor assures the provision of accurate testing which best meets the customer expectations in a cost-effective manner.
Job Expectations include:
- Provides daily supervision of the laboratory or laboratory section
- Assumes responsibility for the technical operations of the Lab or lab section
- Assumes responsibility for human resources management
- Participates in planning and financial management for the lab or lab section
- Evaluates testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention
- Supervises laboratory activities in Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance programs
- Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level of population served

Qualifications
Required
Education
- Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college/university in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes meeting qualifications as specified in CLIA ’88.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology an accredited institution (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided); -OR-
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry (Transcript must be provided); -OR-
- A transcript evaluation verifying equivalency to a U.S. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university (Equivalency verification documentation must be provided); -OR-
- Completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course and a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology including one semester in microbiology and 16 semester hours in chemistry including one semester in organic or biochemistry (Transcript must be provided); -OR-
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in molecular biology, biotechnology, chemistry, biology, cytology, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology, allied health, medical laboratory science, or an appropriately related field (Diploma with field of study listed or transcript must be provided).
Experience
- Candidates with baccalaureate or higher degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology must have 1 year of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing; -OR-
- Candidates qualifying by baccalaureate degree and semester hours must have 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.
License/Certification/Registration
- Applicant must possess or be eligible to receive appropriate Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved laboratory certification. If not certified at time of hire, must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.

Experience
- Three years’ experience in designated discipline or area of responsibility. Histology experience preferred.
