Accountant I

Faith Comes By Hearing is seeking an Accountant I to join our dedicated Accounting Department. The Accountant I plays a vital role in supporting foundational accounting functions, including accounts payable, wire transfers, general ledger updates, and donor fund tracking. This position also assists in preparing routine financial reports, reconciliations, and audits, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial operations.

Responsibilities include:

• Process and manage accounts payable transactions, including invoices, vendor payments, and check requests, ensuring proper documentation and approvals.
• Prepare and execute wire transfers and electronic payments, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
• Record and reconcile financial transactions, including payments, accounts receivable, and general ledger updates.
• Prepare and enter journal entries into the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies.
• Reconcile bank accounts, vendor statements, and petty cash accounts, resolving discrepancies or escalating issues as needed.
• Assist with donor fund tracking, tax receipting, and acknowledgment preparation, ensuring proper allocation and documentation.
• Provide support for audit preparation by organizing and preparing requested documentation.
• Collaborate with the Accounts Payable and Receivable Specialist to validate financial transactions and ensure compliance with policies.
• Support monthly and quarterly financial close processes by preparing reconciliations and completing assigned tasks.

Qualifications include:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree or college-level accounting coursework preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting or financial operations.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
