Job Summary
The School-Based Mentor plays a dual role in supporting student learning and personal growth. This position provides academic assistance in the classroom while serving as a mentor to help students develop essential life skills, confidence, and resilience. The role requires a strong commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and structured learning environment for students who need both academic and social-emotional support.
Key Responsibilities
✅ Classroom Support & Instructional Assistance
- Assist teachers with lesson delivery, classroom management, and individualized student support.
- Work with students in small groups or one-on-one to reinforce learning objectives.
- Adapt instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Support special education programs by assisting students with IEP accommodations and modifications.
✅ Mentorship & Student Development
- Serve as a positive role model, guiding students in developing leadership, self-discipline, and social skills.
- Provide mentoring to students experiencing academic, social, or behavioral challenges.
- Conduct check-ins with students to promote confidence, emotional regulation, and goal setting.
- Encourage and model growth mindset and resilience to help students overcome obstacles.
✅ Behavioral & Emotional Support
- Assist with conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques to create a safe learning environment.
- Implement strategies to promote positive behavior and emotional well-being.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address student challenges.
✅ Family & Community Engagement
- Maintain communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Assist in organizing school events, mentorship programs, and after-school enrichment activities.
- Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and families to foster a strong support system.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years working with students in a classroom, mentoring, or youth development setting.
Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, patience, adaptability, and a passion for student success.
Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification preferred; ability to complete required school district training.
