Job Description: Part-Time Youth Coordinator
Position Overview
The Youth Coordinator will foster spiritual growth, community, and engagement among youth at Faith Journey Lutheran Church, an ELCA congregation. This part-time role (20-25 hours/week) combines onsite and remote work and requires availability on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
The Youth Coordinator will report to and collaborate closely with the Pastor to lead youth programming, coordinate events, and facilitate faith development milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Compass: (Youth Program)
- Assist the Pastor in teaching Wednesday evening lessons.
- Communicate program updates and schedules to parents as directed by the Pastor.
- Organize fellowship and service events for youth.
- Schedule acolytes, ushers, greeters, and readers for Sunday and other worship services.
- Vacation Bible School (Summer)
- Organize, lead, and manage registration for Vacation Bible School.
- Communicate with parents about schedules and details.
- Launch (Youth Program)
- Organize and prepare curriculum/lessons.
- Lead and recruit volunteers to assist with lessons on a rotating basis.
- Send weekly communications (emails) to parents during the program year.
- Collaborate with the Creative Worship Coordinator to plan children’s singing during worship.
- Organize the annual Christmas program, with parent volunteers assisting.
- Faith Milestones Coordination
- Plan and lead milestones such as Communion preparation, Bible presentations, Graduation recognition, and Confirmation in collaboration with the Pastor.
- Communicate details to families.
- Bible Camp Promotion
- Promote and organize registration for Bible Camp.
- Keep families informed about details and opportunities.
- Special Youth Events
- Plan and organize events such as lock-ins and other gatherings to foster community and spiritual growth.
- Work toward establishing an ongoing youth group.
- Faith Formation Team Leadership
- Schedule and lead team meetings.
- Prepare meeting agendas and take notes.
- Communicate updates and action items to the team via email.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Ministry, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Previous experience in youth ministry, education, or working with children and teens in a leadership capacity.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to connect with youth and parents in a welcoming and supportive manner.
- Competence in planning, scheduling, and executing events and programs.
- Creativity in lesson planning and event coordination.
- Proficiency in email, social media, and basic office software.
- Personal Attributes:
- Enthusiasm for fostering spiritual development in youth.
- A collaborative and flexible approach to working with staff and volunteers.
- Ability to manage time effectively and balance multiple responsibilities.
- A strong personal faith.
Additional Information
- Availability required on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
- Reports directly to the Pastor.
