The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:
POSITION: Director of Curriculum K-12
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Curriculum - will support district-wide selection and effective implementation of research based resources, practices, and tools as they relate to instruction in Grades PK-12 in their respective content. The selected candidate will coordinate and lead all monthly meetings of school-based Deans, Department Chairs, and Coaches – coordinating and providing high quality professional development, disseminating information, facilitating the sharing of best practices, and providing networking opportunities for these instructional leaders. The selected candidate will work with the Director of Research, Data, Assessment and Accountability to prepare for and facilitate district wide review and analysis of local and state assessment data for the purpose of supporting school-based leaders in their identification and prioritization of areas of focus and selection of strategies to address these areas. The selected candidate will coordinate and lead instructional learning walks in schools, providing regular feedback with respect to progress toward meeting school and district practice goals. The Director of Curriculum will also participate and assist the building principal with the observation and evaluation of the site administrator responsible for the content supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid appropriate Massachusetts license; (Principal, Supervisor/Director, Superintendent -Asst. Superintendent).
- Three to five years of successful site level or district level leadership experience in PK-12.
- Demonstrated understanding of content and pedagogy as it relates to MA Curriculum Frameworks and the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS).
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and align instruction with the MA Curriculum Frameworks.
- Demonstrated success as an instructional leader in improving PK12 student learning, particularly for students in underperforming subgroups.
- Strong knowledge of current research in core education, effective core curriculum programs, textbooks, materials, and instructional strategies.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; and excellent time management, organizational, human relations and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate, monitor and modify programming in order to positively impact student achievement and personal functioning.
- Track record of success in developing and providing high impact professional development that impacts the practice of other educators.
- Demonstrated initiative, especially in problem-solving and anticipating risks and alternatives.
- Demonstrated success working independently and collaboratively.
- Consistently practices and models a growth mindset.
- Experience and a commitment to creating equitable educational opportunities for all students.
- Proficiency in assessment software and the use of digital technology, including creating documents, spreadsheet and presentation software and flexibility in adapting to new applications.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction/Chief Academic Officer
RESPONSIBILITIES (Supervise, Coordinates, Manages and Directs)
- Provide and coordinate high-quality, standards-aligned content professional development.
- Coordinate development and/or selection of formative and summative assessments and benchmarking tools.
- Plan, schedule, and facilitate district-wide department meetings of coaches and department chairs.
- Coordinate the revision and maintenance of curriculum maps and address inquiries around implementation.
- Collaborate with other district directors for the purpose of designing, identifying, implementing, and evaluating effective, research-based practices and programming.
- Participate regularly in state-sponsored professional development, curriculum review committees, and other state level working groups.
- Participate in cross-team projects and initiatives as necessary.
