SUMMARY:
Full time employment providing peer and recovery support services to adults. The peer support specialist utilizes their lived experience, knowledge, and training to mentor and guide clients who are working to achieve recovery from substance use or severe mental health symptoms. Weekly work hours and pay are not dependent on billable hours and are not dependent on grant funding. Requires working with patients both in the office and in the community. Position is located at our Twin Falls Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). CCBHCs are designed to provide a comprehensive range of mental health and substance use disorder services, particularly to vulnerable populations with the most complex needs.
$22.00 - $25.00 DOE.
Employees can earn up to $520 on the quarterly bonus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent. Required to have Peer Support Specialist or Certified Recovery Mentor certification from a state approved training program. Meet the definition of a peer as defined by the State of Idaho which includes; lived experience with mental health illness, or mental health illness co-occurring with substance use disorder and has been in recovery for a minimum of 1 year.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge about the lived experience of mental health disorders and/or addiction, recovery of mental health disorders, and/or addiction.
- Able to use computers proficiently; electronic charting in FHS’ electronic health record will be required.
- Ability to organize work both in the office and community.
- Ability to work with clients with limited English proficiency, including interpretation services when needed.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to take initiative and problem solve.
- Knowledge of community mental health/SUD resources and support services.
- Knowledge of community health care and vocational services.
- Model and practice interpersonal and communication skills, active listening, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies with individuals and groups.
- The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to communicate with crisis and treatment team when patient shows risks.
- Ability to follow crisis response protocols as it applies to the position.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients’ rights.
- Reflect positive peer values in an appropriate and professional manner.
- Ability to problem solve effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Function independently while maintaining flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with clients, staff, and community agencies.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Assist clients in identifying their own unique strengths, abilities, and assets, and using them to promote recovery and resiliency.
- Assist and encourage clients to engage in support programs and life-enrichment activities in the community to build a natural support network outside the clinic setting.
- Assist clients in building self-efficacy, and promoting voice & choice using the concept of “Do For, Do With, Cheer On.”
- Assist clients in working on overcoming barriers to maintaining independence and help clients practice skill building in budgeting, scheduling transportation, health care appointments, and connecting with benefits.
- Assists clients with identifying and engaging with various community resources and supports.
- Establish relationships with local agencies, and collaborating to coordinate services.
- Document peer support work as directed by FHS policies.
- Complete needs assessments and recovery plans using client and family centered practices.
- Inform lead staff persons, supervisor, and other pertinent staff of clients’ needs or concerns.
- Participate in regular supervision meetings with FHS supervisor.
- Attend relevant staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Implement regulations, policies, and procedures which pertain to peer-delivered services.
- May provide formal teaching, consultation, and in-service training to relevant professionals, while ensuring proper handling of a variety of matters.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Family Health Services is committed to providing our patients with the highest standards of care by becoming recognized as patient centered medical home. FHS staff is expected to participate in this process by being an active and willing PCMH team member. Specific duties and expectations may vary and will be identified by position and site.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
