Rate of Pay: minimum $22 (higher DOE)
Position Overview:
The School-Based Housing Case Manager is responsible for supporting and guiding families in our community who are experiencing housing instability or homelessness. This role focuses on working with school staff, McKinney-Vento liaisons, and other community members to identify students and families in need, and assist them in overcoming barriers to secure stable housing.
Family Promise’s case management approach is guest-driven and hands-on, with an emphasis on Trauma-Informed and Housing-First practices. Our aim is to engage all families in case management, even though it is not mandatory, and guide them towards achieving stable, permanent housing as swiftly as possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build strong, empathetic relationships with families, walking alongside them as they navigate homelessness or housing instability.
- Collaborate with school staff and McKinney-Vento liaisons to identify and connect with students and families in need of housing support.
- Apply Housing First principles to help families identify and address barriers to stable, permanent housing.
- Manage cases for qualifying families, ensuring thorough documentation and maintaining up-to-date case notes.
- Develop case plans and goals with families, checking in frequently and providing ongoing support.
- Uphold strict confidentiality and professional boundaries in all interactions with families.
- Report any unethical behavior or mistreatment to Shelter Supervisors, following mandatory reporting laws.
- Collaborate with the Family Services team to develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations and service providers.
- Attend community meetings, trainings, and mandatory staff meetings.
- Provide flexible support at the Family Promise Shelter, assisting with case management and other tasks as needed.
- Keep an updated schedule in the Google calendar and ensure timely communication with team members and families.
Qualifications:
- GED or High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree in social services or related field preferred.
- Certification in a relevant field and de-escalation training preferred.
- 2 years of experience working with children, families, and diverse populations, particularly those experiencing homelessness preferred.
- Specialization in areas such as Housing, Employment/Income, or Child & Family Resources is a plus.
- Knowledge of how Spokane school districts work, district 81, or equivalent is helpful.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and able to pass required background checks.
- Ability to complete necessary training for Family Promise and partner programs, including school district requirements.
- Translation skills, being bilingual is a plus .

Physical & Working Conditions:
- Active mobility for up to 2 hours at a time; ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- An ability to bend, twist, push, pull, squat, climb stairs, etc.
- Primarily indoor work in schools, shelters, and offices, but may involve meeting with families in other settings.
- Potential exposure to varying weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, and chaotic environments.
- Client population may include individuals facing mental health issues, substance abuse, or gang involvement.
