Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Counselor for Mental Health Services at our Family Recovery Center in Bay Shore. The successful candidate will provide assessments, direct care, and referrals to individuals struggling with mental illness, substance use disorder, or dual diagnosis.
The Substance Abuse Therapist will also provide support to family members impacted by dependency. Our Family Recovery Center offers individual and group treatment models tailored to clients' needs.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough intake assessments to identify clients' needs and develop personalized treatment plans
- Provide high-quality individual and group therapy sessions to adults, adolescents, and children with various DSM diagnoses, including mental health and substance use disorders, in an acute care outpatient setting
- Ensure all clinical documentation is completed accurately and in accordance with NYS Office of Mental Health electronic medical records
- Establish strong relationships with clients during stabilization periods and provide follow-up support as needed
- Collaborate with outside providers and collateral contacts to ensure seamless client care
- Participate in regular supervisions and team meetings to stay informed about best practices and share knowledge
- Cultivate positive working relationships with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate effective treatment
- Maintain proficiency in de-escalation and physical restraint skills through ongoing training
- Adhere to FSL's Code of Ethics and uphold the organization's values
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's degree preferred)
- LMSW, LMHC, LMFT, CASAC, Limited Permit Social Worker, or related licensed clinical degree required
- At least 6 months of experience in a behavioral health setting (clinic experience preferred)
- Experience working in a chemical dependency program/setting required
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required
- Electronic Health Record experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
