Title: HR Generalist

Status: Full-time, Exempt, 40 hours per week                

Salary: $60,405.80 annually

Schedule: Monday – Friday, Hybrid Schedule

Supervisor: Associate Director of HR and Staff Development

 

Function:

The HR Generalist supports the agency’s mission by handling daily HR operations, fostering a culture aligned with the organization’s core values, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures. This position will serve a diverse staff across multiple locations, addressing employee relations, compliance, recruitment, and leave management to meet organizational needs.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent coursework and/or experience.
  • 3 years of HR experience including direct work in employee relations and leave management, preferably in a nonprofit or multi-location setting.
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus.

Position Responsibilities:

Employee Relations

  • Attends and assists with employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Acts as point of contact for staff to provide guidance on workplace policies and procedures.

Compliance and Policies

  • Ensures HR departmental compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as agency-specific policies, recommends best practices.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and communication of policies and procedures.
  • Performs regular HRIS audits, census and other federal, state, funder reporting requirements.

Leave Management

  • Administers leave policies, including FMLA, disability, PFL, and other statutory leave programs.
  • Tracks and manages leave requests, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to legal and organizational requirements.
  • Communicates with employees regarding leave entitlements, processes, and expectations during leave.

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Assists with the recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening candidates, and scheduling interviews.
  • Performs general onboarding tasks including coordinating background checks in compliance with grant and regulatory requirements.

General HR

  • Supports HR Committees (Wellness and Morale/Learning Collab) including Ad Hoc committees.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, work assessments and performance reviews. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Acts as support for all initiatives in other HR functions (events, training, benefits)

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Essential Requirements

  • Ability to focus on tasks for extended periods with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and interruptions.
  • Basic problem-solving and decision-making skills to handle routine office issues.
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise, dust, or other adverse conditions.
  • Occasional travel between locations.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, typically up to 8 hours a day.
  • Occasional standing, walking, or reaching as required for office tasks.

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of HR practices and employment laws.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with professionalism.
  • Proficiency in HR systems (HRIS [ADP preferred], LMS, ATS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
