Patient Care Specialist Role Summary:
This position supports the delivery of high-quality patient care by providing administrative support and customer service to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. Key responsibilities include patient registration, insurance verification, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for patients.
Job Description:
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service to greet, register, and discharge all patients.
- Assist with back-office duties as needed within scope of practice.
- Accurately collect and input patient demographics and financial information at time of registration.
- Verify and update patient insurance information at time of registration.
- Maintain knowledge of medical insurance plans and government/commercial insurance changes.
- Collect insurance, co-pays or deductibles, or self-pay amounts at time of registration.
- Answer phones in a polite and patient-centered manner.
- Maintain Fast Pace Customer Service levels and facilitate patient flow.
- Retrieve, fax, or mail medical records as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Level 1: High School Diploma or equivalent with current CPR license and 1 year customer experience.
- Level 2: High School Diploma or equivalent with current CPR license and 3 years' experience in billing and coding.
- Level 3: High School Diploma or equivalent with current CPR license and 3 years' experience in billing and coding.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent.
- 1 Year medical office experience with basic medical terminology and insurance knowledge preferred.
- Basic use of PC including mouse and standard software such as MS Office.
