What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Feed the Hunger?
Feed the Hunger is a Christian nonprofit ministry whose mission is to feed the spiritual and physical hunger in the needy around the world, especially at-risk children. All employees must agree to our organizational statements.
General Description: Provides technical and administrative supervision to general accounting, payroll, billing and accounts payable personnel; oversees preparation of required tax reports; maintains integrity of financial reporting systems; and provides analytical support regarding financial statements and general ledger.
Authorized Introductory/Training Period: 90 Days
Education/Experience Prerequisites
Mandatory: High School and 5 to 6 years accounting experience
Preferred: 4 year College Degree, Extensive knowledge of non-profit accounting, Excel, Outlook, Bloomerang, and Aplos
Supervision by: COO
Job Requirements:
· Supervise accounting assistants and oversee their work.
· Accounts Payable functions:
o Oversee that all Accts. Payable are coded properly and set up for payment on a timely basis.
· Create and maintain budgets and their distribution.
· Report bi-monthly the Fund Balance Report along with the Profit/Loss and Balance Sheet to management.
· Ensure that all wires are sent according to request and that accounting entries are correct.
· Oversee recording of all donations:
o Verify and commit all contributions by proper fund designation into donor records.
o Oversee all credit card gifts, automatic draft gifts on a monthly basis.
o Prepare gift log deposits by checking totals and preparing deposit slip.
· Oversee bank reconciliation. Maintain petty cash and replenish as needed
· Payroll functions:
o File state tax reports and state refundable taxes on scheduled due dates.
o Prepare payroll worksheet bi-monthly and enter accounting journal entries to document.
o Prepare monthly distribution and reporting on Simple IRA for employees.
o Prepare quarterly reports and year end filings.
o Set up initial employee records and health insurance enrollment forms.
· Prepare financial statements for board meetings.
· Perform account analysis, review balance sheet accounts and expense accounts for accuracy.
· Work with auditors for annual audit.
- Answer basic questions about Feed the Hunger’s beliefs and faith to the public if asked.
- Participate in and lead devotions at staff meetings.
- Be prepared to carry out ministerial role at FtH public functions.
Salary : $55,000 - $60,000
