Position Overview: We seek a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated HR Generalist / Safety Coordinator to join our team. This role will assist with various human resources functions, including talent management, conflict resolution, and employee evaluation, while ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment within our paper manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will have experience building and maintaining a strong safety culture and will be responsible for coordinating and enforcing safety protocols across the plant.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Human Resources Responsibilities:
- Assist in recruitment and onboarding processes for production and administrative staff.
- Coordinate employee training and development initiatives to foster growth and skill-building.
- Assist with benefits administration, including enrollment and changes to employee benefits plans
- Work with HR Director to address employee relations issues, including conflict management and grievance handling.
- Maintain accurate HR records, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Support the implementation of HR policies, procedures, and employee engagement programs.
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to improve retention and satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and workplace regulations.
Safety Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs in compliance with OSHA and company standards.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits throughout the facility.
- Lead safety training programs to educate employees on safe work practices and protocols.
- Investigate and report workplace accidents, injuries, and near-misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Monitor safety performance and track key safety metrics to drive continuous improvement.
- Promote and enforce a safety-first culture, encouraging employee participation in safety initiatives.
- Assist in developing safety manuals, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and other documentation.
- Coordinate emergency response drills and ensure plant-wide preparedness for various emergencies.
Preferred Aptitudes/Eligibility Considerations:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Safety Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in HR and safety coordination, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of HR practices, labor laws, and OSHA safety standards.
- Experience with worker’s compensation claims management and safety reporting.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of employees and management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS/safety management software.
- Certification in Occupational Safety OSHA 30-hour is preferred.
Work Environment:

- Occasional travel to various locations for meetings, training, or HR events may be required.

Technical Proficiency Requirements:

- Comfortable learning and adapting to new technologies and troubleshooting minor technical issues.
- Awareness of basic cybersecurity practices, including password security and phishing recognition.
Physical Requirements:
- This role primarily involves working in an office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, using a computer, and performing other administrative tasks.
- The position also includes regular visits to the manufacturing floor, which may involve standing, walking, and occasionally navigating around machinery or equipment.
