The Department
Strategic Advisers, LLC (SAI) is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 30 years SAI has specialized in the design, construction and management of asset allocation solutions, as well as the methodologies for many of Fidelity’s investment planning tools, to help investors reach their financial goals. With more than $750 billion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third-party investment vehicles, the SAI team of investment professionals constructs and manages asset allocation portfolios for over 2,800,000 client accounts.
The Position
As an institutional Portfolio Manager (IPM) you will serve as an integrated member of the investment team, with a focus on partnerships with the Fidelity Workplace Investing (WI) group, our institutional distribution business. You will be responsible for communicating investment philosophies, processes, and ongoing activities for managed account investment solutions provided by Strategic Advisers to WI and its institutional investment marketplace. From this lens you will act as the principal conduit to provide perspective and understanding regarding managed account solutions and investment education tools to a broad range of constituencies, including current and prospective corporate plan sponsors, consultants, internal associates, and other marketplace participants. Additionally, you will focus on delivering strategic marketplace insight into the investment management organization, including ongoing competitor perspectives and industry trends, as well as providing leadership on investment management content to Fidelity's distribution and product management organizations.
Overall, you will have an influential role in reinforcing the identity of Strategic Advisers in the marketplace and contributing to investment priorities and practices.
Responsibilities
IPM Organizational Structure
As a member of the investment team, you will be fully embedded within the portfolio management team. This level of integration is essential for providing:
- Refined visibility and understanding of the investment process and strategies
- An effective environment for investment solution discussion and decision-making
- Marketplace credibility to most effectively represent asset allocation and other investment decisions
- Ongoing delivery of marketplace perspective, developments and trends into the asset allocation investment organization
Investment Knowledge
You will maintain a comprehensive understanding of your investment strategies, including:
- Deep knowledge of Strategic Advisers, underlying investment disciplines and investment strategy parameters
- Ongoing deep understanding of Strategic Advisers current outlook and portfolio positioning
- Understanding of characteristics and developments across all relevant financial markets
Fidelity Distribution Partnerships
Acting as the principal conduit for Strategic Advisers in support of Fidelity's institutional distribution business, you will:
- Build, maintain and grow partnerships across the institutional distribution business to broaden investment understanding and overall awareness of competitive strengths
- Serve as primary investment contact for clients, with a focus on providing visibility with respect to investment philosophy, process, strategy and performance
- Engage appropriate consulting and gatekeeper communities to provide investment transparency and to build organizational awareness
- Oversee quality and integrity of client and market-facing investment communication material
- Support focus on investment and product education, as well as thought leadership initiatives
Fidelity Product Management Partnership
As a principal conduit for Strategic Advisers and its strategies to support the product management group within the asset management organization, you will:
- Provide leadership and insights regarding the marketplace and competitors, with emphasis on Differentiating competitor investment process and investment performance
- Provide insight and counsel for investment solution improvement and development initiatives
Qualifications
Experience and Education
- Minimum 10 years investment management experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Successful track record of direct representation of investment management strategies to broad spectrum of constituencies
Skills and Knowledge
- Highly effective and consistent written and verbal communication capabilities
- Ability to successfully articulate detailed mechanics of investment process
- Successful track record of investment presentation creation and delivery to broad spectrum of constituencies
- Real passion for financial markets, investment process and provision of effective investment solutions
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, with a frequent focus on gaining consensus across a broad spectrum of investment management, distribution, product management and senior management constituents
