Construction Cost Engineer/Estimator

Finishes Solutions, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical Cost Engineer to join our team. The Cost Engineer’s responsibilities will include preparing budget estimates, cost reports, and cost control budgets, as well as conducting cost risk analysis.

Our ideal candidate is well-versed in project management and has a strong understanding of financial forecasting and cost accounting principles.

The role of the Cost Engineer is to ensure that all financial aspects of our projects are accurately estimated and controlled, contributing to the overall profitability and efficiency of our company.

Construction Cost Engineer Job Responsibilities (primary Role)

  • Monitoring the cost of materials, labor costs, and other expenses to ensure that they do not exceed budgeted amounts.
  • Developing and maintaining cost estimates for construction projects to ensure that the project will be profitable based on target profit margins.
  • Controlling the costs of supplies.
  • Assisting the project management team in making estimates.
  • Preparing revenue predictions.
  • Calculating potential risks.
  • Collaborating with engineers, contractors, and architects.
  • Collaborate with procurement and contract management to manage costs and negotiate contracts.
  • Consulting with industry experts to discuss cost estimates.
  • Provide consultation on planning, coordination and cost control of projects.
  • Interact with project teams and clients to provide cost control and planning advice.
  • Monitor project costs and provide cost control recommendations.
  • Identifying and quantifying all cost factors involved in the project.
  • Using computer software to calculate cost estimates.
  • Preparing and presenting cost reports for clients.
  • Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine reasons for any discrepancies.
  • Analyzing project data and creating detailed cost estimates.
  • Perform risk management, identifying potential financial risks and providing mitigation strategies.
  • Working closely with project managers, stakeholders, and other members of the project team to ensure that projects are completed within budget constraints.

Business Development

  • Collaborate with the Business Development Team to prepare feasibility budgets for potential projects based upon current cost data.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development Team to review budget data prepared by consultants and contractors for potential projects and prepare project budgets for comparison.
  • Collaborate closely with Construction Management during design review to fully understand scope and impact on budget.

Education, Experience, And Licensing Requirements

  • Proven experience as a cost engineer or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial forecasting and risk analysis.
  • Proficiency in cost management and cost control principles.
  • Familiarity with project management software.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • 5 years of project experience working in the construction industry required.
  • Proven work experience as a Construction Cost Estimator or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials and current cost data.
  • Experience with cost estimation software.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills.
  • BSc degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting or relevant field.
