What are the responsibilities and job description for the Church Pianist position at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)?
SUMMARY: Plays piano at all worship-related activities by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned. Job duties are subject to change by the Personnel Committee with notification to the Board.
Accompany the choir, play hymns and special music for weekly worship services and other special services (i.e. Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve, etc.) as designated.
Works in cooperation with and under the direction of the Minister of Music.
Prepare service music for the weekly worship services.
Accompany weekly choir rehearsal.
Be committed to upgrading proficiency as a pianist and take lessons as needed.
Exhibit flexibility in styles of music preferred by the congregation and the Minister of Music.
Coordinate choice of music (including tempo, style, volume, etc.) with the Minister of Music.
Organist/pianist may, occasionally, be asked to play for special services (i.e. weddings, funerals). Honorariums for these services are the responsibility of the requesting party.
Attire and demeanor should always be appropriate for a Christian worship environment.
BENEFITS:
$150.00 paid weekly.
After one year of service, the employee will receive 2 vacation and 1 sick Sunday off with pay per year. Requests for time off must be submitted to the Minister of Music a minimum of 2 weeks in advance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises no employee. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with church policies.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent; or four or more years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to read music.
