What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Family Ministries position at First UMC Franklin?

First United Methodist Church, Franklin, NC is seeking a full-time Director of Family Ministries. Primary duties will include:

Build up the People

· Internally: Relationally invest in children, students, parents, and volunteers (i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.).

· Externally: Develop Partnerships with school-aged children and their families in neighboring schools.

· Explore and establish meaningful community partnerships.

· Provide pastoral care to all families with school-aged children during times of need.

· Develop assimilation processes for new families with school aged children in First United Methodist Church.

Build up the Team(s)

· Recruit, select, train, lead and evaluate individuals and resources for children, youth, and family ministries.

· Facilitate a team of church laity to set, plan, and accomplish annual goals consistent with the church’s vision for our children, youth, and families.

· Coordinate and teach Confirmation classes in partnership with the pastor and provide leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom.

· Develop routine celebration and appreciation of leadership teams and volunteers.

· Identify and nurture the skills, strengths, and assets of families with school aged children and curate service-learning opportunities and leadership development pathways.

· Collaborate and communicate with staff and parents/guardians.

· Support volunteers in programming responsibilities or execute as needed.

· Conduct at least 2 volunteer meetings annually

· Attend Children’s Council, Youth Council, Staff Meetings, And Nurture Meeting (as scheduled).

Build out the Systems

· Lead, coordinate, and direct programming for children ages 0 through grade 12, with evidence of unique developmental differences, including Sunday School.

· Implement a system of communication and pastoral care that is relevant and effective for families.

· Identify and implement regular feedback loops on programming from children, youth, parents, and volunteers.

· Secure learning opportunities for parents and volunteers (i.e. annual conferences, online workshops, etc.).

· Design and implement connection, and spiritual growth opportunities for children, youth, and parents in the church and the Franklin community.

· Develop, maintain, and coordinate training and ensure compliance with the Safe Sanctuary policies and procedures for all volunteers serving children, youth, and vulnerable adults.

· Coordinate budget preparation and administration for the assigned program ministries of the church.

· Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

· A commitment to a relationship to Jesus Christ as Lord and savior.

· Solid biblical knowledge consistent with united Methodist theology and practice or a willingness to learn.

· At least two years’ experience working with children and youth.

· Strong interpersonal skills.

· Ability to delegate responsibility and to work well with a variety of people.

· Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

· Ability to function independently and as a part of a ministry team.

· Outgoing and willing to be involved in the community.

· Proficient in office software, Use of social media platforms and digital media.

· Training in Christian education, early child education, child development.

· Commitment to promote the spiritual growth of children and youth and their families through education and ministry.

· Be available to participate in overnight events.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, climb, lift objects of up to 40 lbs. and be physically active with children and youth.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
