Position Purpose:
The Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining training programs and procedural documentation to ensure bank team members understand policies, processes, and compliance regulations.
This role combines instructional design, technical writing, and hands-on training to equip frontline and operational teams with the knowledge and skills necessary for career success.
The Learning and Development Specialist is critical in ensuring team members are well-trained and informed, helping the bank maintain operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and facilitate in-person and virtual training sessions for new and existing team members.
- Create and update training materials, including presentations, job aids, learning activities, and e-learning modules.
- Design and deliver training on role-specific curriculum, banking products, customer service, sales, compliance, and system operations.
- Collaborate with line-of-business leaders on their attendee’s competency post-training and develop strategic plans for on-the-job support and continuous professional development, ensuring that employees are equipped for success.
- Utilize independent judgment to evaluate each employee's readiness to apply their newly acquired skills in the workplace.
- Coach and mentor employees to remediate training gaps and monitor individualized development plans.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and support to employees during onboarding and career development.
- Plan, develop, and organize bank-wide training days and professional development events.
- Set up and manage training resources, including learning management systems (LMS) and digital tools.
- Maintain records of training and development activities, attendance, results of assessments, and retraining requirements.
- Develop, update, and maintain detailed procedure manuals, job aids, and policy documentation.
- Ensure all written procedures align with regulatory requirements and internal compliance policies.
- Work with subject matter experts to translate complex processes into clear, user-friendly instructions.
- Monitor and audit procedural adherence and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Support process improvement initiatives by identifying inefficiencies and proposing enhancements.
Qualifications
Skills and Abilities Required:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven track record in instructional design and facilitation skills for adult learners.
- Exceptional written communication and technical writing abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and training software (e.g., Canva, LMS).
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, preferred
- Five (5) years of banking experience in retail operations, customer service, or training with strong knowledge of banking procedures, compliance regulations, and operational workflows.
Physical Requirements:
- Typically requires sitting for long periods of time with intermittent stooping, bending, and walking.
- May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds which may include the need for independent mobility to: bend, reach, or kneel.
- Visual and auditory skills are required.
- Ability to travel within the market on a regular basis.
- May be required to work some evenings and/or weekends as necessary.
