About the Opportunity
Reporting to the VP of Finance and Administration, this position is responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of organizational safety and security for employees and patrons. The Director will ensure good collaboration throughout the community and campus by partnering with FIA Security, FCCC Security, UofM Police, Mott Community College Officers, City of Flint Police, Genesee County Sheriff Department as needed.
Specific Responsibilities and Qualifications
Responsibilities
· Under the direction of the VP of Finance and Administration, work with the Sr Manager, Audience Services, and the Manager of Public Safety and Security to ensure continuity between the security departments.
o Develop agency-wide protocols and training for the security teams.
· Develop, lead, and implement bi-annual and annual training for all FIM buildings and its staff including but not limited to:
o Lockdown Drills
o Fire Drills
o Weather Drills
o CPR and or other First Response training
· Manage certification of employees including:
o TIPS
o Serve Safe
o CPR
· Train FIM staff members in the proper use of Nightlock systems.
o Run drills to ensure understanding.
· Maintain all magnetometers to ensure free from error.
· Monitor camera systems, card access, alarm systems, emergency phones, and other related systems. Provide any recommended opportunities for improvement and expansion.
· Oversee management of fingerprinting protocols.
· Manage all building access including key cards and key disbursement.
· Oversee the development and implementation of a consistent method of collecting security incident information, and synthesizes and prioritizes it efficiently for communication to the VP of Finance and Administration.
· Review, revise, maintain, and implement the organization’s fire prevention, safety, and security policies and procedures.
· Review campus and community calendars to ensure proper communication to security teams on activities that could impede parking and/or traffic flow for various events.
· Respond quickly to alarms and emergency calls; act as the primary point of contact for the alarm company.
· Manage annual fire, boiler, and elevator inspections.
· Work with the VP of Finance and Administration and Controller on setting and managing the security budget.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in a field relevant to field operations.
· A minimum of 3 years overseeing security protocols in a school and/or campus setting.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to manage a departmental budget.
· A growth-minded approach, with an interest in leading, teaching, and mentoring.
· Strong technology skills with demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office suite and security technology.
· Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of self and the cultural lenses personally brought to interactions. Candidates will understand different perspectives, interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and cultivate meaningful relationships with people from different cultural frameworks.
· Ability to quickly assess a situation with an excellent sense of judgment.
· Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports about safety and security issues.
· Ability to work extended hours, as needed.
· Familiarity with protocols for communicating and working with local, state, and federal law enforcement, life safety, environmental, and public health agencies.
· Physical Requirements:
o Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
o Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
o Ability to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
Compensation and Benefits:
· Competitive Pay starting at $65,000.00 per year.
