Location: Min No Aya Win Human Services Center & Center for American Indian Resources
Reports To: Laboratory Manager
Probationary Period: 90 days – Full time, 120 days – Part time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Classification: Child-Related CA
Driver’s License: No Driver’s License is required.
Wage Range: $24.47-$27.53
$2,500 Sign-On Bonus, with 2-year commitment

    Responsibilities: Manage laboratory testing need throughout the day and provide direct service for an in-house and problem-solving laboratory services insuring compliance with all applicable regulations and Fond du Lac (FDL) Human Services Division (HSD) policies and procedures.
    Capable of demonstrating comprehension and competency as well as technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects in respective areas of the laboratory to ensure accurate testing while maintaining and operating laboratory equipment. Understands the operating needs of the equipment within Quality Control limits. Recognizes discrepant patient results or QC outliers and implements troubleshooting as needed.
    Obtain specimens and perform specific waived and moderately complex laboratory tests with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and internal FDLHSD policies and procedures.
    Obtain specimens for tests not performed in-house at the clinic(s) and process for delivery to the reference laboratories.
    Act as a point of contact for FDLHSD laboratory with reference laboratories. Receive and review reports these laboratories as needed.
    Monitors transmission of lab orders and test findings utilizing Electronic Health Records (EHR) and assists in identifying any problems and in obtaining needed assistance for correction.
    In collaboration with Laboratory Manager, makes appropriate preparations for inspections and surveys. If the Laboratory Manager is not available, takes a lead role for the clinic in assisting inspectors and surveyors.
    Maintain all laboratory supplies, as required by the manufacturer. Performs a regular inventory check and orders supplies as needed.
    Perform and document quality assurance procedures following established laboratory guidelines.
    Keep a log of all patient served and tests performed.
    Assist supervisor in providing training for other medical employees in performance of lab duties.
    Assist with quality assurance studies and serves on the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) committees as assigned.
    Actively participates as a member of the Laboratory team, along with all FDLHSD employees and providers, to create harmonious operations not only within each lab, but with all staff they come in contact in a day to day basis. When problems or concerns arise, keeps the Laboratory Manager informed or uses the appropriate chain of command, in order to maintain a high-quality work environment.
    Assumes personal responsibility for keeping current on FDLHSD policies, procedures and internal communications (e.g.: email, staff meetings, etc.).
    May be requested or assigned to work at multiple laboratory locations.
    Appropriate work attire is required.
    Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
    Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
    Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
    Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
    Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
    Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
    Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary

    Qualifications: Currently Certified as a Medical Assistant (CMA), AMAA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT, ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT, NCA), Medical Technologist (MT, ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS, ASCP) or eligible to be certified is required.
    One-year laboratory experience is preferred.
    Experience in outpatient setting is preferred.
    Must be able to pass a color-blind competency test consistent with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements.
    Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, data bases and/or data entry, Spreadsheets, and Microsoft Outlook is required.
    Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is preferred.
    Experience working with Native Americans clients, communities and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred.
    Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
    Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
    Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
    Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
    Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
    Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
    Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
    Some travel may be required.
