Position: HSE Advisor
General Description
In order to develop a sustainable safety culture using recognized safe work practices, the HSE Advisor will support the implementation and monitoring of the organization’s health, safety and environmental initiatives and programs. The HSE Advisor will work closely with the Director - HSEQ and Region Operational Managers to identify and execute the best solutions possible to maintaining a safe and compliant working environment.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Communicate HSE standards to employees at work sites to ensure compliance with company, regulatory and industry standards
- Ensures that new hires in the region receives proper and timely new hire orientations
- Verify compliance with the region Short Service Employee (SSE) program
- Observe employees to determine the proper use of prescribed safety equipment and make recommendations related to findings
- Supports the region DOT & vehicle safety program
- Oversees the region inventory and issuance of employee personnel protective equipment and uniforms
- Ensure that all personal protective equipment, site safety equipment and first aid supplies are adequate, available and readily accessible by crews
- Lead the evidence collection and investigation of all HSE-related incidents and near misses and complete required documentation for the region
- Conduct internal HSE field & facility audits to identify unsafe conditions
- Review region observations, inspections, and JSA’s on a daily basis to identify risk activities
- Assist with facilitating the random drug and alcohol program
- Accompany employees to medical consultations and follow up appointments as needed
- Organize and oversee the weekly safety committee conference call, record the meeting notes and distribute the notes to all supervisors/managers
- Represent Fortis HSE at regional customer and industry safety meetings
- Support, protect and promote a positive safe work environment for all employees. Works toward the continual improvement of services and systems to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of employees
- Required to work on a 24-hour call basis, be able and willing to travel as required
- Regional field travel will represent - 80% of work scope
