JOB TITLE: Instructional Paraprofessional / Teacher Assistant (Special Education)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The instructional paraprofessional supports teachers and related service personnel in delivering high-quality instruction, implementing behavioral plans, and fostering social, emotional, and academic development for all students, with a focus on those with special education needs.
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal and Classroom Teachers
FUNCTION:
Collaborate with teachers and staff to provide individualized instruction, behavioral support, and classroom assistance to ensure students’ academic and personal success, consistent with the school’s mission and goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Support:
Provide one-on-one or small group instruction under the direction of teachers.
Support regular and special education students with curriculum, assignments, and academic interventions.
Assist in planning, modifying, and implementing curriculum and instructional strategies.
Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support:
Implement behavioral support plans and monitor student progress.
Support students’ social/emotional development, promoting positive behaviors and conflict resolution.
Provide safe and therapeutic crisis intervention as needed, including accurate documentation.
Student Assistance:
Assist with daily living activities (e.g., toileting, feeding) if necessary.
Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and before/after school as needed.
Use educational technology and assist students in using classroom tools.
Data and Documentation:
Collect and maintain student performance and behavior data to support instructional and intervention planning.
Collaboration and Professionalism:
Work as part of a team, sharing strategies and attending relevant meetings or professional development.
Support classroom management and assist with organizational tasks such as copying and creating materials.
Maintain confidentiality and show reliability, promptness, and ethical conduct.
Other Duties:
Perform additional tasks as directed by the classroom teacher or administrators.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and support diverse student needs.
Proficiency in using educational technology.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience working with children or in an educational setting is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires physical activity, such as bending and kneeling and assisting students with mobility or personal needs. Paraprofessionals may need to support students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, playground, or during school events.
SALARY:
Per Non-Certified Contract
