Description
The Foundation for Blind Children (FBC) is seeking a Residential Coordinator to oversee day-to-day operations and provide leadership for our summer residential programs for high school students with visual impairments. This five-week program, held on the Arizona State University (ASU) campus, includes both the Teen-to-Work and College Prep tracks, designed to help students develop essential life skills for independent living, employment, and higher education. As Residential Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading and supervising a team of residential mentors and volunteers, ensuring the safety and well-being of students, and overseeing logistics for activities and transportation. There will be 2 Residential Coordinators hired to run the logistics throughout the week.
You will work closely with program staff and instructors to ensure that the programs run smoothly, effectively meet students’ needs, and provide students with the best possible experience. In this leadership role, you will provide direction, guidance, and support to both staff and students, fostering a positive, safe, and productive environment. Both programs also include a variety of social and recreational activities, such as bowling, ropes courses, indoor skydiving, escape rooms, ice skating, movie theaters, swimming, fitness classes, and more, providing students with opportunities to engage, have fun, and build confidence. Additional Information:
- Living Arrangements: Housing is provided on campus at no cost, with most meals included. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with students in a residential setting and create lasting educational experiences.
- Travel Reimbursement: Travel reimbursement is available to those traveling from outside of the Phoenix area.
- Work Schedule: The program runs from June 3rd, 2025 – July 12th, 2025. The schedule will include 30-40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend activities as needed to support student engagement. Training will be provided on June 4th, 2025 as well as virtually prior to the program start date. Individual staff working schedules will be provided by May 1, 2025, but please keep flexibility in mind week by week for scheduling changes the week prior.
Duties include:
- Leadership & Guidance: Provide leadership, direction, and support to summer staff, volunteers, and students, ensuring a positive and productive environment for all participants.
- Program Supervision: Oversee daily program operations during the scheduled shifts (day, evening, or weekends) including supervising activities, outings, and student engagement.
- Emergency Procedures: Ensure all program staff and students are aware of and follow the emergency procedures and safety protocols. Be prepared to act quickly and appropriately in any emergency situation.
- Transportation Coordination: Coordinate and supervise transportation to and from various program activities, ensuring students arrive and depart safely and on time.
- Scheduling Activities: Collaborate with instructors to coordinate schedules for pre-planned activities, field trips, and other student engagements. Ensure all logistics are planned effectively for smooth execution.
- Communication with Parents: Act as the primary point of contact for parents regarding pickup and dropoff.
- Program Supplies: Ensure that all necessary program supplies are obtained and available for use. Manage inventory and ensure students have what they need for daily activities.
- Progress Documentation: Complete daily notes on activities.
- Shift Supervision: Supervise outings and activities. Ensure students have a safe and enriching experience.
- Mentor Supervision: Supervise residential mentors during their shifts, offering guidance, coaching, and support as necessary to ensure effective supervision and student engagement.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management team to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
Qualifications
- Experience: Prior experience working with high school students with visual impairments is preferred. Experience with coaching high school students and mentoring them.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification: Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required.
- Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to offer guidance, support, and constructive feedback to students.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for working with students, families, and colleagues in a respectful way.
- Commitment to Safety: Ability to ensure students’ safety at all times and follow emergency procedures.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of instructors and program staff to meet the needs of students.
- Skills: Strong ability to manage time, develop lesson plans, collaborate effectively with others, and track student progress.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to a changing schedule, including participation in field trips, weekend activities, and additional program support as needed.
