Job Summary
The School Counselor provides support to students by offering academic, social-emotional, and career counseling. This role involves developing and implementing school counseling programs, collaborating with teachers and parents, and providing direct student services to promote student success.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Support: Assist students in developing academic plans, setting goals, and overcoming barriers to learning.
Social-Emotional Counseling: Provide individual and group counseling to support students' emotional well-being and behavioral development.
Career Guidance: Offer career exploration and post-secondary planning services to help students prepare for future success.
Collaboration: Work with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to support student needs and achievement.
Crisis Intervention: Respond to crisis situations and provide appropriate interventions to ensure student safety and well-being.
Program Implementation: Develop and deliver comprehensive school counseling programs in alignment with district and state guidelines.
Student Advocacy: Advocate for student needs and create a supportive school climate that fosters student success.
Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate, up-to-date records on student interactions, interventions, and progress.
Behavioral Support: Implement strategies and interventions to support positive student behavior and conflict resolution.
Monitoring: Monitor student progress and conduct follow-ups to ensure continued success and support.
Resource Coordination: Connect students and families with community resources for additional support services.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
Experience: Relevant job-related experience is required.
Skills: Ability to apply counseling techniques, operate educational software, and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge: Understanding of counseling principles, developmental psychology, behavioral interventions, and educational policies.
Abilities: Ability to schedule activities, manage diverse student needs, adapt to changing priorities, and solve problems independently.
Work Environment
Physical Demands: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, with some climbing and balancing. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment with minimal temperature variations.

Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel as needed.
Inquiry Response: Respond to inquiries from various sources (e.g., students, parents, administrators) to resolve issues and provide information.
Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
