Position Summary:
This position supports the College’s Financial Aid Initiatives in concert with the enrollment, retention, and completion initiatives of the College. This position reports to the Associate Director of Financial Aid and State Compliance. Under direct supervision, this position assists in processing student financial aid applications and awards. This position regularly experiences contact with College faculty, staff, the general public, and external agencies including lending institutions and government agencies. The incumbent is the first point of contact for students and their family representatives through in-person, phone, or email conversations. The work product or service affects the accuracy, dependability, or acceptability of further processes or services by other areas of the unit. This position must use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Monitors communications from the Department of Education and professional affiliations to stay abreast of current regulations, policy guidance, and best practices.
2. Provide general customer support to a diverse population of administrators, faculty, students, visitors, and callers.
3. Assist in processing student financial aid applications and awards.
4. Assist students in preparing applications.
5. Confirm students’ status by checking documents; verify applicant’s data with outside agencies.
6. Accurately enter applicant data subject to audit into a database, create applicant files, and maintain records.
7. Assist students with understanding academic progress for continued eligibility.
8. Exercise diplomacy, and tact, and maintain confidentiality.
9. Receive and check applications and related documents for accuracy and completeness and notify applicants if additional information is needed.
10. Assist in the preparation of reports.
11. Perform related office clerical duties.
12. May participate in financial aid outreach activities.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1. High School Diploma/GED
2. One (1) years of experience in Customer service
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
4. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired Qualifications
1. Associate degree
2. One (1) year experience working in a financial aid office
3. Bilingual
