This position is based at our Chicago, IL facility. It's the front line operating authority and is responsible for the day to day operations/activities of the terminal(s). They provide supervision and direction to all operations employees. They ensure that all operations schedules required by the customer are met 100% of the time. They also oversee quality and efficiency of transportation associates; equipment utilization and maintenance; and adherence to MCC's policies, procedures, and DOT regulations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Responsible for dispatching company drivers for pick up and delivery of shipments through the RY's.
  • Meet customer requirements; ensure productivity levels are reached in an effective and efficient manner and maintaining quality performance objectives.
  • Provide supervision and direction to all operations employees.
  • Follow and enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for administrative activities, development/monitoring of KPI and implementing continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Provide on-site management and company representation to the customer.
  • Responsible for staffing, training, and administering discipline.
  • Ensure safe and healthy workplace and address compliance issues, implement and maintain safety and compliance procedures.
  • Complete daily reporting of operational/quality requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT and OSHA requirements and regulations.
  • Provide instructions to drivers on routing and proper handling of materials.
  • Conduct driver safety meetings.
  • Dispatch drivers on a variable schedule as needed.
  • Hire drivers that meet company and DOT requirements.
  • Write work instructions that are clear for the drivers to follow.
  • Ensures employees are following proper work instructions in their assigned areas.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in assigned area.
  • Ensures employees are provided with appropriate tools to complete assignments.
  • Counsels and uses progressive corrective action processes when disciplining employees.
  • Remains current with changes and operating procedures within assigned areas.
  • Provides clear concise written and verbal communication to all personnel.
  • Perform driver safety rides (process walk).

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of Trinium operating system
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics/Transportation is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience in Transportation/Logistics/environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to train, motivate, coach and counsel others.
  • Must have very good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with customers and employees.
  • Exceptional problem solving, conflict resolution, decision making, planning, and organizational skills are all required.
  • Balance team and individual responsibilities.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in demanding environments with tight deadlines.

This position is Full time, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm. Must be able to work overtime and occasional Saturdays.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of Port(s) & RY is a must.
  • At least 5 years dispatch experience.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up
  • Computer proficiency; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Knowledge of Trinium preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Pass a post offer drug exam
