Job Summary
The position is responsible for negotiates vendor terms, prices and schedules delivery using knowledge of budget and schedule requirements as well as compiles and maintains records of business transactions and office activities of the organization by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities & Duties
Primary duties include but are not limited to:
- Adheres to purchasing policies, processes and procedures.
- Carries out warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures.
- Uses knowledge of material work planning and methods engineering processes and procedures to coordinate product deliveries.
- Negotiates best vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements.
- Design and implement the sourcing strategy of fresh produce.
- Supplier performance and relationship management.
- Manages procurement initiatives, including cost reduction levers.
- Compiles records and reports.
- Purchases materials, which involves planning purchasing requirements and placing Pos.
- Manages the day-to-day interaction with suppliers, including providing feedback to vendors and managing disputes.
- Assists other departments when required.
- Reviews requisitions.
- Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
- Prepares and executes bid requests & RFPs.
- Receives and contacts vendors to find out status of orders.
- Contacts vendors with discrepancies with quantity and quality.
- Interfaces with all departments and resolves problems and issues as necessary.
- Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
- Helps develop the company’s inventory tracking system and maintain inventory levels aligned with company policies.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Experience and proficient in using databases, web-based portals, and able to learn proprietary software quickly.
- E-sourcing tools experience preferred.
- Strong cost and spend analysis in excel. Focus on total cost of ownership.
- Creative thinker. Ability to identify ideas for cost and price reduction.
- Flexible, strong collaborator and ability to work in teams with disparate stakeholders.
- Good negotiator, both win-win and competitive negotiations. Contract negotiations.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Excellent communication skills, both in oral and written medium.
- Aptitude in problem solving.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of Lean Principles/Concepts and Kanban preferred, not required.
- Strong orientation toward quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively implement change.
- FFT ERP (Measure) knowledge preferred, but not required.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, food, engineering business or related disciplines.
- Minimum 3 years’ prior experience in fresh produce buying (fruits or vegetables) or demonstrated knowledge skills.
- Experience in fresh produce buying (fruits or vegetables) is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear. Employees are exposed to extreme cold temperatures and moderate noise levels on a regular basis. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
