Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in Water/Sewer or a related field; Supplemented by 4 years of experience in Sewer Maintenance to include two (2) years lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification(or equivalent) from a recognized organization is required; valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s); Trench Safety Certification from a recognized organization; Confined Spaces Certification from a recognized organization; Flagger Certification from a recognized organization within six (6) months of employment.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform operational duties related to supervising staff in the monitoring, maintenance, and repair of the sewer system infrastructure, including preparing cost estimates, responding to citizen inquiries, and assisting in preparing assigned area budget. General Supervisor, Water and Sewer, is distinguished from Sewer System Superintendent in that the former supervises assigned staff in addition to performing sewer system maintenance/repair duties, whereas the latter oversees sewer maintenance/repair functions in addition to supervising assigned staff. Incumbent in this class serves on a 24-hour on-call basis seven (7) days per week.
Essential Functions:

Supervises assigned staff, including establishing workloads, prioritizing work assignments, evaluating employee performance, interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures, resolving staff issues, and administering disciplinary action as required.
Schedules video, site, and other inspections; dye and smoke tests; and repair and maintenance assignments for assigned work crews.
Prepares daily work reports.
Assists with the preparation of assigned area budget.
Prepares cost estimates at job sites.
Responds to inquiries from the general public.
Prepares as-built documents for constructed sewer lines.
Ensures staff adherence to safety procedures.
Notifies homeowners of on-site work involving sewer systems.
