Role:As the Director of Security Operations at Function, you’ll lead our efforts to protect our systems, employees, and member data through scalable detection, response, and infrastructure security programs. This is a mission-critical role where you’ll define the operational foundation for our security posture and build the muscle to detect and respond to threats in real-time.

You’ll join as the first senior leader in Security Operations, responsible for designing systems, hiring key team members, and partnering closely with Engineering, IT, and Compliance to implement world-class controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead the Security Operations function, including cloud security, endpoint security, detection engineering, and incident response.
• Define our security monitoring strategy across infrastructure, SaaS, and production environments.
• Stand up or integrate SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, and telemetry pipelines to enable visibility and detection.
• Lead investigations into security events, ensuring rapid response and lessons learned are fed back into the system.
• Partner with Engineering to ensure secure infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and identity boundaries.
• Work alongside Compliance and GRC to ensure controls meet HIPAA and SOC 2 standards.
• Develop metrics and reports to quantify risk reduction and operational readiness.
• Mentor and grow a high-performance security team over time.
  
  

Qualifications/Skills

• Experience: 10 years in cybersecurity, including 5 in operational security roles.
• Leadership in Security Operations: Proven experience leading Security Operations programs in cloud-native, high-growth environments.
• Advanced Security Tooling Expertise: Deep familiarity with detection tooling (SIEM, EDR), cloud security (GCP), and automation frameworks.
• Incident Response Proficiency: Strong incident response skills, with experience leading investigations and remediations.
• Effective Communicator: Excellent cross-functional communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Compliance Knowledge: Experience with compliance-driven environments, particularly HIPAA and SOC 2.
• Startup Adaptability: Comfortable in a startup environment — you’re scrappy, strategic, and hands-on.

• Familiarity with Health Technologies: Knowledge of or experience with popular health technologies, such as Oura, Whoop, Apple Watch, and CGMs (Continuous Glucose Monitors).
