Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced studio assistant for support on a fabrication project. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power tools, basic studio machine operating, shop organization, fabrication skills, & assisting our team on day to day fabrication & installation build out studio tasks. Your expertise will ensure that our shop runs efficiently and effectively and our artists are supported day to day. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running and help us create a productive work environment.
Ideal Skills:
- Has a general understanding of assembly and fabrication
- Is able to think critically of fabrication challenges and come up with potential solutions and efficiencies
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of woodshop and other fabrication tools.
- Support fabrication, assembly, and finishing of projects, including wood, metal, acrylic, and foam materials.
- Help with material handling, including receiving deliveries, cutting stock, and organizing supplies.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of projects, including moving large pieces and assembling components.
- Packing and shipping artwork or components as needed.
- Coordinate with the lead fabricator to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Occasionally run errands to pick up materials or supplies.
Requirements:
- Experience in woodworking or fabrication
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (50 lbs).
- Comfortable working with power tools, hand tools, and shop equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently while maintaining efficiency.
- Knowledge of shop safety protocols and best practices.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced creative environment.
- Good communication skills
Preferred Skills (Not Required, but a Plus):
- Proficiency in Rhino, Fusion 360, or other CAD software, or other design software.
- Experience with CNC operation (ShopSabre IS408 or similar).
- Welding, painting, finishing, or cabinetry
- Background in sculpture, set design, or production design
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: From $200.00 per day
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
