What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Steel Superintendent position at G.A. West & Co., Inc.?
G.A. West & Company is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Superintendent to work from our Mobile, Alabama location. Structural Steel Superintendents oversee the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of structural steel per AISC certification requirements, including but not limited to, coordinating steel deliveries, crane operations, and erection activities, while managing crews and ensuring adherence to safety standards, budgets, project scopes and schedules.
This position is considered long-term and may be deployed continually for months at a time within the Southeast US.
The candidate will be tasked to communicate on the project with other G.A. West employees and those employees of sub-contractors and suppliers, while maintaining a positive working relationship with the owner representative, the engineer of record, and/or their designee.
Tasks and Responsibilities:

· Be proficient in scheduling project workflow with in-house direct-hire construction crews and third-party subcontractors.
· Be proficient in scheduling material deliveries.
· Perform and/or support routine safety and quality control checks on the project and enforce compliance, when required.
· Be proficient in basic computer software applications and daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 5 years of experience overseeing all phases of structural steel constructions including planning, scheduling and execution.
· Possess a strong understanding of industry standards such as AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction), AWS (American Welding Society), and relevant local codes or building regulations.
· Proven experience supervising ironworkers, welders, and riggers, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and productivity targets.
· Must be able to organize, sequence, and lay out work site priorities and produce work packages for individual crews ensuring that the structural steel installation meets project specifications and industry standards.
· Must be able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including project owners, engineers, and subcontractors, to ensure that everyone is aware of the project status and any potential issues.
· Must be able to speak, read and write English.
· Must have a valid driver’s license, successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, a motor vehicle records check, and a criminal background check.
· In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete to the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
