Purpose of Position:
The Project Superintendent is responsible for leading project execution by ensuring field personnel operate at the highest levels of safety, quality, timeliness, and productivity while maintaining budget objectives. This role is critical to fostering long-term client relationships and company profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Jobsite Management & Pre-Planning
- No job is to start without a jobsite visit.
- Do not begin work until all issues and discrepancies have been addressed and resolved.
- Confirm start dates and milestone dates before commencing work.
- Work closely with the project team to ensure materials are ordered in a timely manner.
- Communicate staging and materials requirements with the Project Engineer (PE).
- Review project scope with Estimators/Sales prior to project start (HAND OFF process).
- Project Execution & Field Oversight
- Responsible for the production success of all projects.
- Ensure field personnel are operating at the highest levels of safety, quality, timeliness, and optimum productivity.
- Provide guidance on proper installation techniques and review with field teams.
- Ensure job-site conditions meet manufacturer requirements before work begins.
- Manage and ensure proper execution of the Field Work Authorization (FWA) process and requirements.
- Visit troubled projects to physically review and resolve issues.
- Installers must notify the superintendent immediately of any production issues or bad news.
- No extra work is to be performed without written approval—NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Communication & Coordination
- Work closely with project team members to meet project objectives.
- Attend required meetings and actively contribute.
- Check and respond to emails daily.
- Check and return voicemails promptly.
- Input and edit CAL (project management system) with all pertinent project information before leaving the job site.
- Develop an action plan based on project status and data.
- Labor Management & Scheduling
- Assign and sequence installation personnel to optimize efficiency.
- Recommend increases or reductions in field personnel as needed to meet project goals.
Authority:
- Recommend assignment and sequencing of installation personnel.
- Escalate job-specific or site-related concerns to the Project Manager.
- Recommend labor adjustments to optimize project execution.
Recommended Qualifications (but not required):
- Proven experience as a Superintendent in commercial flooring or construction.
- Strong knowledge of flooring materials, installation techniques, and industry best practices.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and installation instructions.
- Proficiency in electronic communication and project management systems.
- OSHA certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
