Assistant Farm Manager - Horticulture (St Ignatius)

is a small Lonicera caerulea farm in St. Ignatius, Montana, with stunning views of the Mission Mountains, and nearby to Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake, and the CSKT Bison Range. Our berries are grown mainly for wholesale use as well as for fresh sale at local farmers markets and u-pick.

We’re owner-operated, stable, and looking to hire an experienced and independent farm hand with aspirations for management, to manage all day-to-day activities on the farm. This role is full-time for 6-months of the year, with the option to live on-site in a comfortable, quality RV trailer during the season.

We plan to be on-site this season to provide guidance and training, however in subsequent years there is opportunity for expanded responsibility and a promotion to farm manager. Our ideal hire will be someone who we can trust to fully manage our farm season after season.

Responsibilities:

• Maintaining the current honeyberry crop, including mowing, weeding, pruning, harvesting, storage, and fertigation.
• Beginning work as early as 3am during the harvest, which lasts roughly 2 weeks
• Basic construction and maintenance of shade structures, electrified bear fence, and bird exclusion netting for the farm.
• Preparation for 2026 farm expansion, including planting starts, installing mulch, fertigation system installation, and troubleshooting the irrigation system.
• Assist with the training and management of seasonal labor leading up to and during the harvest season.
• Traveling to local farmers markets and managing our fresh berry, jam, and compote stand.
• Storage, packaging, and processing of fresh and frozen fruit.

You are the ideal candidate if:

• You have at least 2-5 years of experience as a farm hand
• You have strong troubleshooting skills
• You have an independent spirit and enjoy working with your hands
• You are able to safely lift at least 50 lbs
• You have experience operating basic construction tools, tractor, weedeater, and mower
• Management experience is a plus, but not required
• Plumbing / irrigation experience is a plus, but not required
• Formal education in agronomy / horticulture / agriculture is a plus, but not required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 – 35 per week
