What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Farm Manager position at Galactic Farms?
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining the current honeyberry crop, including mowing, weeding, pruning, harvesting, storage, and fertigation.
- Beginning work as early as 3am during the harvest, which lasts roughly 2 weeks
- Basic construction and maintenance of shade structures, electrified bear fence, and bird exclusion netting for the farm.
- Preparation for 2026 farm expansion, including planting starts, installing mulch, fertigation system installation, and troubleshooting the irrigation system.
- Assist with the training and management of seasonal labor leading up to and during the harvest season.
- Traveling to local farmers markets and managing our fresh berry, jam, and compote stand.
- Storage, packaging, and processing of fresh and frozen fruit.
You are the ideal candidate if:
- You have at least 2-5 years of experience as a farm hand
- You have strong troubleshooting skills
- You have an independent spirit and enjoy working with your hands
- You are able to safely lift at least 50 lbs
- You have experience operating basic construction tools, tractor, weedeater, and mower
- Management experience is a plus, but not required
- Plumbing / irrigation experience is a plus, but not required
- Formal education in agronomy / horticulture / agriculture is a plus, but not required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 35 per week
