What are the responsibilities and job description for the Microsoft Cloud Solutions Engineer position at Galveston County Office of Information Technology?
The purpose of this class is to architect, implement, maintain and provide overall management of the County’s cloud computing strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.
Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Serve as lead subject matter expert, providing guidance and support for cloud technologies. Working closely with management, develop and execute a comprehensive cloud strategy in alignment with County objectives. Maintain detailed documentation of cloud configurations, processes and procedures, communicating updates and performance insights to leadership teams.
Lead the adoption and implementation of cloud solutions, ensuring scalability and security. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver tailored cloud-based systems.
Monitor cloud system performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
Design, deploy and manage Microsoft Azure-based infrastructure, including virtual machines, networking and storage. Oversee Azure storage services, including blob storage, file shares and disk storage, optimizing performance and cost-efficiency.
Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 services and tenant policies including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Defender Security, OneDrive and Teams.
Manage and maintain SCCM and InTune for endpoint deployment, compliance and security. Develop and enforce device management policies and automate software updates and deployments across the County devices.
Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies for Azure resources, including SQL databases.
Automate resource deployment and management using JSON template and PowerShell.
Monitor and manage user accounts, licenses and system performance.
Design and implement backup solutions for critical systems, leveraging Cohesity storage for Microsoft 365 data availability and recovery.
Configure and manage Microsoft Security and Compliance Center policies, including data loss prevention and threat management, performing regular security audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and frameworks.
Coordinate with the IT Security team to ensure robust cloud infrastructure protection. Work with the team as needed to respond to and harden security-related itesm.
Support special projects or initiatives as assigned by leadership.
Provide mentorship and training to junior team members.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Four-year degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or relevant field; or on-the-job experience that demonstrates competencies equivalent to a four-year degree.
Minimum four years experience in Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, SCCM, Intune, Microsoft Security and virtualization.
Strong knowledge of cloud computing technologies, security, compliancy and best practices.
Expertise in designing and configuring Azure storage, DNS and virtual infrastructure.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Relevant certifications such as MCSA, MCSE or Azure Administrator Associate.
