SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Food Services, the Utility Worker is a member of the Food Services team responsible for assisting and maintaining cleanliness and organization/efficiency in the kitchen, providing meals, customer service, and a cheerful environment for students and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs daily cleaning of dishes by using the 3-bay sink and conveyor dishwashing machine to scrub and clean dishes, pots, and pans used in day-to-day operations.
- Ensures clean dishes, pots, and pans are in their proper place.
- Assists in basic kitchen prep for peeling and cutting of fruits and vegetables.
- Scooping pre-made products into serving containers.
- Assists with catering as needed, such as assembling sandwiches and cookie/pastry platters.
- Delivers and/or sets up food and beverages within the building as needed when requested by the Director. Catering events may take place in the evening and on weekends.
- Assists customers, answers questions, and retrieves requested items.
- Stock items in the serving area such as bottled beverages and snacks. Before serving time, stocks of snack items, dairy products, beverages, and other items to be replenished.
- Sets up and maintains serving area with compostable paper supplies. Monitors serving area. Refills compostable paper supplies as needed, and keeps area neat and clean.
- Cleans work areas and serving areas as needed. Periodically wash carts, sinks, shelves, refrigerator doors, and sides. Clean the salad bar, steam table, coffee dispensers, and all serving areas.
- Receives, lifts, and puts away deliveries in the dry storage room, paper storage room, walk-in refrigerator, walk-in freezer, reach-in refrigerators, and serving areas.
- Follows closing procedures. Turns off equipment, and lights, locks doors, and closes windows.
- Always follow allergy awareness policies. Adheres to all rules to protect students and staff with food allergies and sensitivities. Be knowledgeable about all ingredients in the menu, items, and food products, and be ready to advise customers. Follows all safe food handling practices to prevent cross-contact with allergens.
- Adheres to all kosher dietary laws. Non-kosher food or any meat is not allowed in the kitchen. Only utilize food products and cooking tools/knives supplied by Gann. Physical demands include stooping, bending, reaching for, ability to lift at least 50lbs, and standing for extended periods are common.
