The Food Safety Manager will be required to learn all aspects of quality assurance testing, understanding important Products characteristics and specifications (Acidified products, Fresh Produce: garlic, ginger, shallots, onions) and COA's, as well as understanding and managing food safety programs, as GFSI, HACCP and Organic-NOP programs.
This position will be expected to participate in monthly plant inspections, lead customer and 3rd party audits, overseeing the Food Safety team. This position will report directly to the COO.
Purpose:
Lead and manage the QA & EHS management system in the factory/facility, and influence and engage management and other functions in the business, in order to drive strong QA culture and achieve the company's commitments and to ensure that systems and programs are implemented and continuously improved.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the quality system core activities to continuously improve performance, by setting objectives, defining strategies, plans, initiatives, communications, and trainings, to ensure compliance/consistency with regulatory and company policies, standards, systems and core values, and to improve management and provide oversight with incident and emergency management and reporting to achieve Company goals and key performance indicators.
- Manage the implementation of the management system and programs' requirements, in line with the company Principles and Practices and applicable regulatory requirements, by engaging the management and employees and facilitate continual improvement, to ensure that procedures and programs are accepted, supported and integrated in day-to-day processes and activities.
- Performance and Reporting: ensure timely reporting of performance indicators to operation/market management, by ensuring the data is validated and analyzed, to provide highlight achievements, areas of concern, opportunities for improvement, to correct possible deviations and to enable senior management to support improvement actions and prioritization.
- Ensure compliance with quality related laws and legislation and keep up to date with any changes, inform management on the impact of these changes to their roles and responsibilities, advise and represent site management in all matters concerning compliance with regulations and maintain professional relationships with permitting authorities, in order to ensure that all regulatory reporting requirements are adhered to and appropriate actions to correct deficiencies are implemented.
- Responsible for FDA, Quality schemes (currently GFSI) and NOP inspection, audits, and regulations.
- Supervise, direct, and perform laboratory activities to ensure the Quality Control Program is complete, accurate, implemented, and continually upgraded, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Understanding of customer requirements per products specifications and methods for creating, submitting, trending COA's.
- Keep up to date customer´s quality requirements and platforms.
- Understand critical attributes of the Products and learn QA tests associated with measuring those attributes.
- Leading role in the plant food safety and employee health & safety teams
- Develop knowledge and understanding of FSMA requirements.
- Lead monthly self-inspection program. Assist in scheduling inspections, summarizing results, assigning corrective actions, and verification of completion.
- Assist in the implementation and management of food safety policies and procedures.
- Collect and keep updated supplier’s requirements database.
- Review and update standard operating procedures or quality assurance manuals.
- Identify quality problems or areas for improvement and recommend solutions.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in science programs preferred.
- Quality Assurance/Control: at least 2 years (Preferred).
- Previous experience in production or manufacturing preferred.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, creatively, with an open mind and always proposing new ideas/ways of working.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work 45-50hrs/week (including Saturdays)
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
- Quick learner and forward thinker.
- In-depth knowledge of quality control procedures and legal standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills.
- Good attention to details.
