About the Food Safety and Quality Supervisor position
The Food Safety and Quality Supervisor performs various tasks in ensuring that food products meet high standards of safety and quality before they reach consumers. Their primary purpose is to oversee and manage the processes and procedures that contribute to the safety and quality of food products. These efforts ensure the quality group is in support of company initiatives.
Food Safety and Quality Supervisor responsibilities are:
- Supervise the quality operations of the facility with an aim for high performance
- Provide direction and schedules to the quality department
- Manage the workflow by assigning responsibilities and preparing schedules
- Resolves issues and disputes between quality employees and other departments, if applicable.
- Ensure individual correct product specs are being met daily.
- Monitors quality of product and inspection of plant sanitation, with corrective actions if applicable.
- Maintain and supervise Pre-requisite Program calendar activities, verification, and validation.
- Participates in Food Safety, Sanitation, Pest Control, GMP’s, Facility Inspections, Internal Audits.
- Participates in internal and external food safety, quality, and regulatory audits.
- Ensures product labels are verified at every stage correctly.
- Coordinates FSQA required training plan with employees and address any lapses in training.
- Ensure that all new specifications are distributed to all pertinent personnel.
- Reviews product to ensure it is as described in comparison to our specs and the supplier specs.
- Maintain all supplier documentation; certifications, audits, COA’s and supplier shelf-life letters.
- Follow and understand product recall/traceability procedures.
- Communicate/coordinate effectively with all internal departments.
- Follow and enforce all GMP and PPE procedures daily.
- Follow and enforce all food safety & Quality rules and regulations requirements.
- Communicate daily with QA personnel by handling all Food safety and quality issues, holds, releases, special projects, and special requests.
- Follow up on FSQA and USDA/FSIS/FDA tags and related business.
- Organize and maintain filing of FSQA documents.
- Train new QA techs and fill QA techs position if needed.
- Maintain QA techs work schedule (Daily/Weekly/Monthly)/tasks and vacation coverage.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines and company standards.
- Perform the functions of SQF Practitioner.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Food Safety and Quality Supervisor requirements are:
- Bachelor’s degree from regionally accredited college or university, Food Science, or similar field preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of applicable experience.
- SQF, HACCP, PCQI certification required.
- FSQA/FSIS/FDA/SQF working experience and knowledge of governmental regulations.
- Experience writing and revising technical documents (SOP’s, compliance, FSQA, etc.).
- Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all company stakeholders.
- Exceptional negotiation and conflict resolution attributes.
- Must be able to work with all levels of an organization and manage effectively.
- Outstanding motivational skills with negotiation and conflict resolution attributes required.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Able to sit, walk, and move around for long hours at a time
- Must be computer proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software knowledge
- Ability to solve complex problems using logic, teamwork, and other mathematical solutions.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and remain positive in the work environment.
